The Ain O Salish Kendro (ASK) has expressed deep concern over recent incidents of forced 'push-ins' of people, including women, children, and the elderly, at the Bangladesh-India border. In a press release issued on Thursday, ASK called for a human rights-compliant solution to the issue and urged both countries to ensure the safety, dignity, and humane protection of people stranded at the border.
ASK highlighted that many individuals were pushed into Bangladesh without proper verification of their nationality and identity. The organization emphasized that forcing people into Bangladesh without following legal and transparent procedures is unacceptable. ASK stressed that every person has the right to humane treatment, regardless of their nationality, religion, language, or immigration status.
The release noted that many people have been stranded at the border for days, lacking basic necessities such as food, clean water, medical care, and safe shelter. ASK called for both countries to follow diplomatic and administrative measures to verify the identities and legal statuses of individuals at the border, ensuring that no one is placed in situations where their life, safety, health, or dignity is at risk.
