The government is increasing the monthly honorarium allowance for titled freedom fighters by 5,000 Taka. On Thursday, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury proposed this increase in the 2026-27 budget in the Jatiya Sangsad. The monthly honorarium allowance will be increased by 5,000 Taka for Bir Shrestha families to 40,000 Taka, Bir Uttam families to 30,000 Taka, and Bir Bikrom and Bir Protik families to 25,000 Taka. However, the monthly honorarium for general freedom fighters will remain unchanged at 20,000 Taka. Additionally, festival allowances, Bangla New Year allowances, medical services, funeral grants, and other benefits will continue. The Finance Minister also announced the construction of 4,730 Bir Nibash houses in the upcoming fiscal year to ensure housing for titled freedom fighters. The monthly allowance for families of martyrs in the July uprising will continue at 20,000 Taka. Injured individuals in categories A, B, and C will receive 20,000 Taka, 15,000 Taka, and 10,000 Taka respectively. The budget proposes increasing the number of beneficiaries of the July uprising allowance by 1,857 to a total of 16,513.
