Press Institute of Bangladesh's (PIB) fact-checking and media research team, BanglaFact, has identified an attempt to create confusion by spreading an AI-generated image of the July Memorial Monument. BanglaFact reported that a photo claiming to show the July Memorial Monument with numerous shoes hanging from it was being circulated on social media.
Upon verification, BanglaFact found that the image was not authentic but created using AI technology. Multiple AI content detection tools confirmed this. No evidence was found to support the image's authenticity, and several inconsistencies typical of AI-generated images were identified.
Rise in Misinformation
Fact-checking organizations have noted an increase in the spread of false information on social media, particularly targeting the interim government, parties involved in the July 24 movement, and the BNP. Misinformation campaigns aim to create confusion and spread false narratives about these entities.
Role of BanglaFact
BanglaFact, PIB's fact-check, media research, and analysis team, regularly verifies false and misleading information and conducts research on media and news. The organization has identified hundreds of false pieces of information circulating on the internet in Bangladesh, working to prevent rumors and misinformation and provide the public with accurate information.
Ongoing Efforts
BanglaFact continues to play a crucial role in combating misinformation in Bangladesh, ensuring that the public receives accurate and verified information amidst the spread of false narratives and rumors.
