429 people dressed as Charlie Chaplin gathered in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland, aiming to break the world record for the largest assembly of people dressed as the iconic actor. Despite their efforts, they fell short of the 2017 record of 662 participants.
The event was held in front of Chaplin's former home, now a museum, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its establishment. Participants wore black derby hats, toothbrush mustaches, and carried canes, emulating the famous actor.
Among the participants was Antoine Chapey, a 36-year-old actor who often portrays Chaplin on stage. He expressed his joy at being part of the event, calling himself 'the happiest man in the world.'
Chaplin lived in the Swiss manor for the last 25 years of his life, having moved there after being denied re-entry to the United States during the 1950s due to suspected communist sympathies.
