Nazmul Hossain, Bangladesh's Test captain, stated that he has no issue with the 'Pandava' concept in Bangladesh cricket, emphasizing that the focus should be on the team's success rather than individual performances.
In an interview with Prothom Alo's chief sports editor Utpal Shuvro, Nazmul initially tried to avoid the topic of 'Pandavas', saying, 'Let it be, these are personal matters.' However, he later addressed the issue, highlighting the importance of the team's performance over individual recognition.
Nazmul believes that while supporters or journalists may choose to call players by any name, the primary goal should be the team's victory. He stressed that the team's collective effort and success are what matter most.
The former 'Pandavas'—Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and Mahmudullah—were once the cornerstone of Bangladesh cricket, leading the team to numerous victories. However, discussions about the potential divisiveness of the 'Pandava' concept have been ongoing.
Nazmul's comments come after Soumya Sarkar and Shakib Al Hasan expressed similar sentiments, hoping that the 'Pandava' era would not return. Nazmul, who has played with all the original 'Pandavas', particularly with Mushfiqur Rahim, noted that he does not have enough experience to comment on whether the concept ever led to prioritizing individuals over the team.
