In the Hindu epic Ramayana, a remarkable event is described where Hanuman, a devoted follower of Lord Rama, lifts an entire mountain to save his comrade Lakshmana. This event is often interpreted as a metaphor rather than a literal occurrence.
According to the Ramayana, Lakshmana fell unconscious during the battle between Rama and Ravana. To save him, a special herb called Sanjivani was needed. Unable to identify the exact plant, Hanuman lifted the entire Gandhamadana or Dronagiri mountain, believing it contained the herb.
This act is considered a metaphor for Hanuman's devotion and the lengths he would go to fulfill his guru's command. It symbolizes the power of faith and the extraordinary feats one can achieve through spiritual strength and determination.
Hanuman, known for his yogic powers, could alter his size at will. When he appeared gigantic while carrying the mountain, it was perceived as if he was lifting the entire mountain, though he was actually carrying a large bundle of herbs and plants.
