BNP MP Ashraf Uddin has demanded measures to prevent individuals associated with 'fascists' from using the e-GP (Electronic Government Procurement) system for government procurement. Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir responded that the relevant laws will be reviewed to address the issue.
During a discussion in the Jatiya Sangsad, Ashraf Uddin highlighted that individuals with strong profiles from the 'fascist era' easily secure contracts through the e-GP system, disadvantaging other contractors and engineers. He argued that this leads to lower-quality work being executed by unqualified individuals.
The MP also called for prioritizing local contractors over those from other districts or divisions to ensure the quality of work under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). The Minister assured that specific policies are in place for tendering and executing such projects.
Additionally, MP Nilofar Chowdhury raised concerns about the condition of parks and playgrounds in Dhaka and other cities, alleging that many have been occupied or commercialized. The Minister acknowledged past occupations by the previous government and stated efforts are being made to reclaim and develop these spaces.
