An 11-party alliance in Bangladesh has announced protests against push-ins and border killings. The alliance will hold protests in all border districts and key border points on June 12. Additionally, a rally will be organized in Dhaka's Shahbagh on June 15. The protest schedule was announced at a press conference held at Jamaat-e-Islami's central office in Moghbazar. Hamidur Rahman Azad, the alliance's liaison committee coordinator and Jamaat's assistant secretary-general, stated that the border is currently unprotected and that the current government's handling of border killings poses a severe threat to the country's independence and sovereignty.
Azad criticized the Indian government, alleging that it has strengthened security measures in 26 districts and is engaging in hostile actions against Bangladesh. He claimed that India has attempted push-ins at various border points, and if the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the public do not unite, India would have pushed in more of its citizens into Bangladesh. Azad also mentioned that over 50 push-in incidents have occurred in the past three months, affecting more than 2,479 people, though he believes the actual number is higher.
The alliance leader further criticized the Bangladeshi government, stating that 19 innocent Bangladeshis were killed and 24 injured by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) gunfire within the first 100 days of the current government. He also accused the BSF and Myanmar's Arakan Army of forcibly detaining 83 people. Azad called for the government to take appropriate action and criticized the Home Minister for his comments, which he likened to those of Indian ministers. He urged the government to abandon its 'kneeling foreign policy'.
Other leaders present at the press conference included Nasiruddin Patwari of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Tofazzal Hossain Miyaji and Ahmed Ali Kasemi of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Abdullah Al Mamun of the AB Party, Abdul Mazed Athari of the Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party, Iqbal Hossain of the National Democratic Party (Jagpa), and Nizamul Haque of the Bangladesh Development Party.
