In a significant push for climate resilience, Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez, the Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs, has highlighted the critical need for enhanced institutional capacity and strengthened collaboration to effectively address the growing challenges of climate change, adaptation, and loss and damage in Bangladesh.
Dr. Parvez made these remarks during the closing session of a two-day workshop on "Climate Change Policy and Governance: Understanding the Adaptation, Loss and Damage Nexus and Pathways to Access International Finance from Global Funding Mechanism" held at the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT) conference room in Mohakhali.
The workshop, jointly organized by the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and ADAMS Foundation with support from the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, brought together representatives from various ministries, departments, and government agencies engaged in climate-related activities.
Expressing gratitude to the Norwegian Embassy for its continued support, Dr. Parvez underscored the importance of such initiatives in building the capacity of government officials to effectively tackle climate change issues, particularly in relation to adaptation, loss and damage, and accessing international climate finance.
He hoped that similar collaborative efforts would continue in the future to further enhance Bangladesh's institutional preparedness and climate resilience. The workshop resulted in the preparation of two comprehensive proposals under the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) by participants from different ministries and departments, leveraging the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.
