The death toll from the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 5,398, according to the latest tally released by officials. The twin quakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck the country's coastal north, devastating the state of La Guaira. The government reports 16,740 injured, while estimates suggest thousands remain unaccounted for. Search operations continue, but efforts are shifting towards humanitarian aid and rebuilding.

Humanitarian Response and Reconstruction

Interim president Delcy Rodriguez has vowed to deliver 4,000 homes by year's end for those displaced, with a goal of 10,000 homes by 2027. The International Monetary Fund has released $346 million to finance reconstruction. The National Assembly has approved reforms to expedite housing construction.

Ongoing Challenges

There have been 1,405 aftershocks recorded since the initial earthquakes. The focus is now on providing immediate aid and long-term reconstruction to help the affected communities recover.
