Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to name a suitable road in Dhaka after former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. During a parliamentary session, the Prime Minister announced that he had verbally instructed the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives to identify a road under the Dhaka City Corporation for the honor. He expressed gratitude to the Leader of the Opposition for raising the proposal.
Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the late Sheikh Hamad, highlighting his contributions to Bangladesh's development and the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates during regional tensions. The Prime Minister noted that Qatar has been a significant partner in Bangladesh's economic growth, providing employment to millions of Bangladeshis.
In recognition of Sheikh Hamad's contributions, Bangladesh declared state mourning and flew the national flag at half-mast. Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad also traveled to Doha to convey Bangladesh's condolences. Sheikh Hamad served as the Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and passed away at the age of 74.
