Bangladesh is observing state mourning today following the death of former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Tuesday declaring the national mourning. As part of the mourning, the national flag will be kept at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, government and private buildings across the country, as well as at all Bangladeshi missions abroad.
A Friend of Bangladesh
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was one of the architects of modern Qatar and a true friend of Bangladesh and Bangladeshi expatriates. He passed away on July 12, 2026. His contributions to strengthening the ties between Qatar and Bangladesh will be remembered. During his rule, Qatar provided significant support to Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and economic development.
National Tributes
As part of the national mourning, special doa will be offered at mosques across the country seeking eternal peace for the departed soul. Special prayers will also be held at other religious places of worship. The government has urged all citizens to pay their respects to the former Emir, whose leadership played a crucial role in the development of modern Qatar.
