Bangladesh's Acting Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal and Nepal's Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari have expressed optimism about revitalizing the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) through enhanced regional cooperation. The discussion took place during a courtesy call by the Nepalese envoy at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Commitment to SAARC Revitalization
The Acting Speaker emphasized the opportunity to realize the vision of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who initiated SAARC to promote development through mutual cooperation. He urged Nepal to take an active role in making the regional bloc effective once again, a call to which Ambassador Bhandari agreed.
Parliamentary Friendship Group
Kayser Kamal thanked Nepal's Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal for forming the Bangladesh-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Nepalese parliament and expressed hope for a similar group in Bangladesh. He highlighted the benefits of such a group, including strengthened parliamentary diplomacy, enhanced people-to-people contacts, and cooperation on mutual interests.
Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
The Acting Speaker proposed expanding cooperation in various sectors such as education, culture, youth exchanges, people-to-people connectivity, water resources, energy, regional connectivity, trade, and climate change. Ambassador Bhandari praised Bangladesh's progress under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and expressed Nepal's commitment to closer collaboration.
