Namaz is regarded as a unique means of achieving success in human life. It beautifies and illuminates one's life. Namaz is a key attribute of a successful believer. The Holy Quran states, 'Indeed, the believers have succeeded who are humble in their prayers.' (Surah Al-Mu'minun, Ayah: 1-2)
This Ayah highlights 'humble in their prayers' as a unique characteristic of successful believers. In Islamic terminology, this is known as 'khushu–khuju'. Namaz inspires individuals towards a pure and pious life, motivating them to move from the darkness of disobedience to Allah towards the light of virtue.
Those who regularly perform Namaz with sincerity find it easier to abstain from injustice, indecency, and reprehensible acts. The Quran states, 'Indeed, prayer prevents indecency and wrongdoing.' (Surah Al-Ankabut, Ayah: 45)
Everyone aspires for Allah's mercy. One unique way to attain mercy is by performing Namaz with full concentration. The Quran says, 'Establish prayer, give zakah, and obey the Messenger so that you may receive mercy.' (Surah An-Nur, Ayah: 56)
Namaz cleanses an individual's life of sin. Living a sin-free, pure life is the ultimate desire of all. The Prophet (PBUH) said, 'If a river were in front of anyone's door and they bathed in it five times a day, would any dirt remain on their body?' The companions replied, 'No, no dirt would remain.' He said, 'This is the example of the five daily prayers with which Allah washes away sins.' (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 667)
Just as leaves fall from trees in winter, the sins of a person who performs the five daily prayers also fall away. Abu Zarr Al-Ghifari (RA) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) once went out during winter when leaves were falling. He held two branches of a tree, and leaves started falling. The Prophet (PBUH) then said to Abu Zarr, 'When a Muslim performs Namaz for Allah's pleasure, their sins fall away like the leaves of this tree.' (Musnad Ahmad, Hadith: 21556; Shu'ab ul-Iman, Hadith: 2960)
All believers wish to enter Jannah. To attain Jannah, one must be regular in Namaz. Performing the five daily prayers with full concentration and calmness will lead Allah, the Great Sustainer, to grant entry to Jannah.
The Prophet (PBUH) said, 'Allah has made the five daily prayers obligatory. Whoever performs them with seriousness and without negligence, Allah has promised to grant them entry to Jannah.' (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith: 425)
Thus, Namaz beautifies and purifies one's life, brings the stream of mercy into life, and paves the way for salvation in the afterlife. Let us, therefore, be diligent in performing the five daily prayers and move forward on the path to Jannatul Firdaus.
