Bangladesh will observe the holy day of Ashura on July 17, following the confirmation by the National Moon Sighting Committee that the crescent moon of Muharram was not sighted on July 14. Consequently, the month of Muharram will commence on July 15, and Ashura will be observed on July 17.
The decision was made during a meeting held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, chaired by Md. A. Awal Howladar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The meeting reviewed reports from various districts, the Islamic Foundation, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization, which confirmed that the Muharram crescent was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh.
Attendees at the meeting included officials from the Ministry of Information, the Bangladesh Waqf Administration, the Cabinet Division, the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Bangladesh Television, and prominent religious figures.
