Mahalaya, the auspicious day marking the beginning of Durga Puja, is celebrated today. This day signifies the start of Devi Paksha and the invocation of Goddess Durga through the recitation of Sri Sri Chandipath. In Dhaka, the Dhakeshwari National Temple will host Mahalaya ceremonies, including rituals like til-tarpan and ghat sthapana. This year, Goddess Durga will arrive on an elephant, considered a good omen, and depart on a palanquin, seen as inauspicious. Preparations are underway for Durga Puja across Bangladesh, with 33,355 pandals and temples set to host the festival, including 258 in Dhaka. The interim government has provided a total grant of 5 crore taka for Durga Puja, with allocations ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 taka per pandal. At the Dhakeshwari National Temple, the creation of the Durga idol is in progress, with the clay work completed and painting and decoration remaining.
