Khelafat Majlish has criticized the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, calling it debt-dependent and overly ambitious. In a statement on Thursday, the party's Amir, Maulana Abdul Basit Azad, and Secretary General, Ahmad Abdul Kader, highlighted that the proposed budget of 9.38 trillion Taka has a deficit of 2.43 trillion Taka, which the government plans to cover through domestic and foreign loans. The leaders noted that a significant portion of the budget will be spent on debt interest payments and operating expenses, and questioned the feasibility of the revenue target of 6.95 trillion Taka.
Criticism and Positive Notes
While criticizing the budget, Khelafat Majlish also acknowledged positive aspects such as initiatives to reduce the prices of essential commodities and the goal of allocating 5% of GDP to education and health sectors. The party also called for effective measures to combat corruption, curb inflation, and prevent economic wastage.
