BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced today that the government is committed to implementing both the BNP's 31-point reform agenda and the July Charter in full. Speaking to reporters following a meeting and dinner hosted by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for leaders of political parties involved in the anti-fascist movement, Fakhrul emphasized the Prime Minister's reaffirmation of the government's pledge to fulfill its promises to the people.
Commitment to Reform Agenda
Fakhrul stated that Prime Minister Rahman clearly confirmed the implementation of the 31-point agenda, which was jointly announced. He also reiterated the government's commitment to the July Charter, which was signed by all political parties, to be implemented in full.
Strengthening Political Unity
The meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna aimed to exchange views and strengthen the unity forged through the long struggle against fascism, extremism, and autocracy. Fakhrul described the meeting as emotional, with leaders reflecting on their joint struggle and the sacrifices of political activists.
Prime Minister Rahman warmly greeted the alliance leaders, thanking them for their contributions to the democratic movement and acknowledging the challenges faced during the government's first five months due to state responsibilities and priority tasks. He assured more frequent meetings to enhance political coordination and continue consultations on future programs.
Highlighting the government's initiatives, Fakhrul mentioned programs benefiting the people, such as waiving agricultural loans, distributing Family and Farmers' Cards, providing allowances to religious leaders and athletes, and launching canal re-excavation and 'Notun Kuri' initiatives. The Prime Minister also noted the devastated economy and weakened institutions inherited from the previous administration, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to rebuild these institutions and bring the government closer to the people.
