Recommended assistant teachers staged a day-long protest demanding the issuance of appointment letters.

Recommended assistant teachers for Primary Assistant Teacher Recruitment-2025 staged a protest in front of the Directorate of Primary Education's main gate from 11 AM today, demanding the issuance of appointment letters. The protesters announced that they would continue their protest until the appointment letters are issued.

At around 4 PM, the protesters were dispersed by police. From 10 AM, the recommended teachers started gathering in front of the Directorate of Primary Education. At 11 AM, a 9-member delegation from the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Director General of the Directorate, demanding immediate issuance of appointment letters and notification for all finally recommended candidates.

After submitting the memorandum, the representatives informed in a press conference that the Director General said the memorandum would be sent to the Ministry of Education. He also mentioned that the government is positive about the quick recruitment.

The protesters rejected the assurance from the authorities and demanded a specific date for the issuance of the notification. They sat in front of the Directorate's main gate, blocking it. As a result, several officials' vehicles could not leave the Directorate. However, the protesters did not obstruct anyone from entering or exiting on foot.

At around 3:30 PM, the Ministry of Education issued a press release assuring quick completion of the recruitment process and calling for the suspension of the protest. The protesters rejected the Ministry's statement and continued the blockade.

At around 3 PM, additional police and a water cannon were deployed in front of the Directorate of Primary Education in Mirpur, Dhaka. At 4 PM, the police asked the protesters to lift the blockade, but they refused, demanding a specific date for the issuance of the notification. Shortly after, the police charged at the protesters with batons, dispersing them. At least 4 people were injured while trying to escape in different directions.

Later, the protesters took position on the main road, from where they were also removed by the police. The police moved one group of protesters towards Mirpur 1 and another towards Mirpur 10 roundabout.

The recommended candidates will hold a press conference at 6:30 PM today (April 27, 2026) in front of the Dhaka University Central Library. A member of the delegation informed that the next course of action may be announced from the press conference.
