Nationwide Afforestation Drive

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, the Bangladesh Navy has launched tree plantation programmes at all its bases, establishments, and coastal installations across the country in support of the national afforestation drive. A special prayer was offered after the inauguration, seeking the successful implementation of the campaign.

Campaign Objectives and Significance

Addressing the programme, Admiral Nazmul Hassan urged all naval personnel to actively participate in tree plantation from their respective workplaces to help make the campaign a success. He expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute to building a safe, livable, and environmentally sustainable Bangladesh for future generations by maintaining a balance between development and nature.

Climate Change and Ecological Balance

Highlighting the importance of afforestation in addressing climate change, Admiral Nazmul Hassan said extensive tree plantation would help build a greener, climate-resilient, and environment-friendly Bangladesh. He also stressed expanding plantation activities in coastal areas to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters and preserve ecological balance.

Types of Trees to be Planted

As part of the campaign, the Bangladesh Navy is planting fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal trees at its bases, coastal establishments, and adjoining areas across the country. The event was attended by the Principal Staff Officer at Naval Headquarters, commanders of different naval areas, senior military and civilian officials, and sailors.

Future Implications

The successful implementation of this campaign is expected to have significant environmental and social impacts.
