The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 93 people and seized 54 kilograms of cannabis in a series of anti-crime and anti-drug operations across the capital over the past two days. The operations targeted various areas, including Mugda, Uttara West, Turag, Mirpur Model, Jatrabari, and Khilkhet.

Raids and Seizures

Police conducted separate raids in Mugda, Uttara West, and Turag on Sunday, arresting 30 suspects. Another 30 individuals were detained in a special operation in Mirpur Model on Monday. The detainees include suspects in regular and warrant-related cases, as well as individuals accused of various criminal offenses.

During the Uttara West operation, police recovered 40 grams of cannabis. In a separate operation early Monday, traffic police and Jatrabari police arrested three alleged drug traffickers after intercepting a private car at a checkpoint in Jatrabari. Officers seized 44 kilograms of cannabis and impounded the vehicle.

Further Operations

In another anti-drug raid late Sunday, Khilkhet police arrested three people at the Mastul checkpoint and recovered 10 kilograms of cannabis from a microbus, which was also seized. Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against all those arrested.

Significance and Next Steps

These operations highlight the DMP's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and criminal activities within the city. The seizure of a significant amount of cannabis and the arrest of multiple suspects demonstrate the police's commitment to maintaining law and order. The legal proceedings initiated against the arrested individuals indicate that the authorities are taking decisive action to hold offenders accountable.

The success of these operations may lead to further intensified efforts by the DMP to curb drug-related crimes in Dhaka. The community's cooperation and continued vigilance will be crucial in supporting these law enforcement initiatives.
