A tree-planting initiative, under the 'One Child, One Tree' programme, will be rolled out tomorrow at all government and MPO-affiliated secondary schools across the country. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the programme at the national level at 10:00 am, according to a press release from the Learning Acceleration in Secondary Education (LAISE) project, under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
Programme Details and Requirements
To implement the programme, each educational institution will be given Taka 5,000 as a climate grant. As part of fulfilling the government's electoral manifesto, each institution must plant at least one fruit-bearing tree, one timber tree, and one medicinal tree using the grant money. The event will be broadcast live on various government and private mass media.
Engagement and Participation
Participants from selected educational institutions will have the opportunity to connect with the Prime Minister via video conference. This initiative aims to foster environmental awareness and responsibility among students while contributing to the country's greening efforts.
Background and Context
The 'One Child, One Tree' programme is part of a broader effort by the government to enhance environmental education and promote sustainable practices in schools. By involving students in tree planting, the programme seeks to instill a sense of stewardship for the environment from a young age.
