Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don has announced a 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption and irregularities in road construction and renovation works in the city. He stated that strict measures are being taken to ensure transparent and efficient infrastructure development. Several road projects were inaugurated, including six kilometres of road construction and renovation in Mahiganj and Central Bus Terminal areas, and a one-kilometre reinforced cement concrete (RCC) road to Chikley Park.
Key Projects and Costs
Under the Government Development Assistance Fund project, 1,377 metres of road from Mahiganj Shaheed Minar to Gosaibari will be constructed at a cost of Tk 95.27 lakh, while a 1,340-metre road from Mahiganj Shaheed Minar to Dewantuli via Pirgachha will cost Tk 96.38 lakh. A 4,100-metre section from Central Bus Terminal to Barabari Road is being renovated at a cost of Tk 8.68 crore, and a 1,020-metre RCC road to Chikley Park is being constructed at a cost of Tk 3.58 crore.
Vision for Rangpur
The RpCC administrator emphasized that the city would be developed in a planned manner as an eco-friendly, modern, liveable, and traffic-congestion-free city. He highlighted the priority given to the renovation of dilapidated and major roads to ease the suffering of city residents and make travel safer and more comfortable. The long-awaited modernisation of the road from Jahaj Company intersection to Mahiganj Satmatha intersection has already begun.
