A pedestrian was killed and four others were seriously injured in a road accident in Sonakhali area on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district this morning. The deceased has been identified as Alam, a 51-year-old mason from Barakpur village in Sonakhali, Sonargaon. According to police and local sources, a truck suddenly went out of control, striking Alam and subsequently colliding with an auto-rickshaw, leaving its four passengers injured.

Alam died at the scene, while local residents quickly rescued the four passengers from the damaged auto-rickshaw and rushed them to Al Baraka Hospital with serious injuries. Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Awlad Hossain confirmed that the truck involved in the crash has been seized, but the driver fled the scene.

The victim's body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police have initiated legal proceedings in connection with the incident. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.

Road accidents are a significant concern in Bangladesh, often resulting from a combination of factors including vehicle maintenance, driver behavior, and road conditions. This incident underscores the need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
