A Dhaka court has convicted and sentenced Md Hridoy Miah to death for the murder of his employer, Afroza Sultana, in the Middle Badda area of the city. Judge Mohammad Moin Uddin Chowdhury of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-3 pronounced the judgment. According to the prosecution, Afroza Sultana, a service holder, was brutally murdered on March 13, 2022, after her throat was slit at her second-floor flat in Middle Badda.
The victim's brother, Md Al Manzil, filed a murder case with Badda Police Station the following day. The convict's confession, along with CCTV footage and scientific evidence, revealed that Hridoy, who was working as Afroza's driver, had been addicted to online gambling and had lost a substantial amount of money. To repay his gambling debts, he robbed his employer’s gold ornaments and slit her throat with a knife, finding her alone at the flat on the afternoon of the incident.
Following the confessional statement of the accused, the investigating officer recovered the 9-inch bloodstained knife used in the murder, 22.04 grams of looted gold ornaments, bloodstained tissue paper, and the victim's vanity bag containing the stolen Taka 600 from beneath the ground. After completing the investigation, Sub-Inspector Md Ripon Uddin of the DB's Gulshan Division submitted the charge sheet against the accused.
During the trial, 12 prosecution witnesses testified before the court. The conviction and subsequent death sentence highlight the severity of the crime and the court's commitment to delivering justice in cases of brutal murder.
