The National Moon Sighting Committee will hold a meeting tomorrow to determine the beginning of the Safar month, 1448 Hijri. The meeting will be held at 7 pm at the Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram meeting room. Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad) will preside over the meeting, according to a handout. The Islamic Foundation has requested that any sighting of the Safar moon anywhere in Bangladesh be reported to specific telephone numbers or to the Deputy Commissioner or Upazila Nirbahi Officer of the concerned district.

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, and the beginning of each month is determined by the sighting of the new moon. The Safar month holds religious significance for Muslims, as it is the second month in the Islamic calendar. The National Moon Sighting Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and consistent lunar observations across the country.

The meeting tomorrow will involve members of the committee, religious scholars, and officials from the Islamic Foundation. They will review any reported sightings of the Safar moon and make a decision on the official start date of the month. This information will then be communicated to the public, allowing Muslims in Bangladesh to plan their religious observances accordingly.

The Islamic Foundation has provided three telephone numbers for reporting moon sightings: 02-41053294, 02-226640510, and 02-223383397. The public is encouraged to contact these numbers or reach out to their local Deputy Commissioner or Upazila Nirbahi Officer if they observe the Safar moon. This collaborative effort ensures that the committee has access to a wide range of observations from different regions of the country.

The determination of the Safar month start date is an important event for the Muslim community in Bangladesh. It allows for the proper observance of religious practices and traditions associated with the Islamic lunar calendar. The National Moon Sighting Committee's role in this process underscores the significance of accurate lunar observations in Islamic religious practices.
