Bangladesh and Malaysia's Sarawak state are exploring stronger cooperation in the agriculture sector, with a focus on agricultural technology, food security, and the potential formulation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This was discussed during a meeting between a Bangladesh High Commission delegation and senior officials from Sarawak's Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD).
Areas of Cooperation
The discussions highlighted potential areas of cooperation, including the sharing of experience, expertise, and technology. Specific focus areas included rice production and livestock development. The two sides also explored ways to enhance trade and investment between Bangladesh and Sarawak.
Upcoming Events and MoU
The M-FICORD Permanent Secretary invited Bangladesh to participate in the upcoming Sarawak Agrofest 2026. Additionally, the two sides discussed the process of drafting an MoU to provide a framework for expanding collaboration in the agriculture sector. The meeting was part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties between Bangladesh and Sarawak.
The Bangladesh High Commission delegation also attended the opening ceremony of LabAsia Borneo Edition 2026 and visited various exhibitions at the event. This meeting follows recent engagements of the Bangladesh High Commissioner with Sarawak's Governor, Premier, and other senior officials.
