State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmad Sohel Monjur today warned that contractors involved in irregularities in development projects will be blacklisted. Speaking at a review meeting on the progress of various National Housing Authority (NHA) projects, he emphasized the need for projects to be completed within the stipulated timeframe and with integrity. "The tenders would be cancelled if projects are not completed within the stipulated timeframe or if any misconduct is detected," he said. Monjur stressed that project implementation would be closely monitored by both authorities and an independent third-party verification process to ensure transparency and accountability.
He further stated that if any irregularities are found in development works, the concerned contracting firm will be blacklisted. Officials, employees, and other stakeholders of the housing authority have been instructed to remain vigilant to prevent any form of irregularity or corruption in contracting and construction activities. Monjur emphasized that the development projects must be handed over within the specified timeframe while maintaining the highest quality standards with reasonable profit margins, as part of the government's broader efforts to build a corruption-free country.
The review meeting was attended by Housing and Public Works Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam, NHA Chairman Ferdousi Begum, NHA Members Md. Abdul Gaffar and engineer Abul Kashem Mohammad Shahjalal Majumder, Director Fakir Muhammad Munawar Hossain, Md. Mehedi Hasan, along with officials, engineers, and representatives of registered contractors of the NHA. The state minister's directives come as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and integrity of public development projects in Bangladesh.
