Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today underscored the need for further expanding public awareness campaigns to build a clean and liveable Bangladesh. He appreciated the contribution of BD Clean volunteers to environmental protection and cleanliness initiatives across the country.
The Prime Minister's emphasis came during a courtesy call by a three-member delegation of the voluntary organisation BD Clean at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Md. Nazmul Haque Khan, assistant press secretary to Prime Minister, mentioned this in a statement.
Discussions in the meeting focused on BD Clean's ongoing activities to promote a cleaner Bangladesh, protect the environment and enhance public awareness on civic responsibility. State Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam was present at the meeting.
The delegation comprised BD Clean's former chief coordinators Champa Akter and Zahirul Islam Robi, and incumbent chief coordinator Masudur Rahman. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the role of BD Clean volunteers and stressed the importance of further expanding such public awareness programmes across the country.
BD Clean representatives expressed their commitment to working under the Prime Minister's leadership to help transform Dhaka into a clean, liveable and environmentally friendly city. Founded on June 3, 2016 with a single volunteer, BD Clean has grown into one of the country's largest volunteer organisations, with more than 58,000 members working in 58 districts and 165 upazilas.
Over the past decade, the organisation has restored 18 canals and seven rivers, developed 76 clean public parks and has been conducting regular cleanliness drives and public awareness campaigns nationwide. The Prime Minister's call for expanded public awareness is significant for Bangladesh as it strives to improve urban living conditions and environmental standards.
