A court in Sylhet has sentenced one individual to death and three others to life imprisonment in the 2020 Murari Chand (MC) College dormitory gang rape case. The Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal, presided over by Judge Swapan Kumar Sarkar, delivered the verdict today, acquitting four other accused in the case. The convicted individuals are Saifur Rahman, who received the death penalty, and Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Tarekul Islam Rony, and Arjun Laskar, who were sentenced to life imprisonment. The acquitted accused are Ainuddin alias Ainul, Misbaul Islam alias Rajan, Rabiul, and Mahfuzur Rahman. The court based its decision on testimonies from 24 witnesses and DNA evidence matching six of the eight accused.
