Khulna observed July Martyrs' Day today with due respect through wreath-laying ceremonies, prayers, and commemorative programmes. Family members of the July martyrs and participants in the July movement placed wreaths at the July Martyrs' Memorial in Shibbari area. Representatives from various organizations and government officials also laid floral tributes.
Tributes and Memorials
The day was marked by tributes from a wide array of individuals and groups. Representatives of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, Range DIG Md Mostafizur Rahman, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, Deputy Commissioner Hoore Jannat, Superintendent of Police, Chairman of Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Chairman of Khulna WASA, and officials from different government departments paid their respects. Leaders from various political parties also participated in the ceremonies.
Discussion and Prayer Sessions
A discussion meeting and prayer session were held at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy auditorium. Lawmaker of Khulna-1 constituency Amir Ejaz Khan, speaking as the chief guest, highlighted the government's commitment to the July Charter and the importance of democratic movements. He emphasized the role of constructive discussion and criticism in a democratic state and prayed for the eternal peace of the martyrs' souls. Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, and other places of worship across the city.
Educational institutions organized discussion meetings and prayer sessions to honor the day. The events were attended by government officials, family members of those killed in the July mass uprising, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and representatives of different political parties.
