A preparatory meeting was held at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom, chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam. The meeting included Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, deans, provosts, the proctor, the acting registrar, heads of offices, and representatives from DUCSU and student organizations.
The programmes include laying the foundation stone for the 'July Monument' on August 5, 2026, and establishing a 'July Memory Corner' at the Dhaka University Central Library. A discussion meeting themed around the July mass upsurge will be held at the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) auditorium on the same day.
Additionally, each hall and faculty will organize their own events. Special prayers will be offered at the university's central mosque and other religious places on campus. The meeting also decided to observe 'Women's Day' annually on July 14.
The July uprising holds significant importance for Bangladesh, marking a pivotal moment in the nation's history. The university's efforts to commemorate this event aim to honor the sacrifices made and keep the memory alive for future generations.
