Dhaka District Honors July Martyrs with Ceremony at Rayerbazar Mass Grave

Dhaka district administration observed July Martyrs Day with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rayerbazar mass grave, honoring those who sacrificed in the struggle for justice and democracy.

Dhaka district administration today paid profound tribute to the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising by placing wreaths at the Rayerbazar July Martyrs mass grave, marking the historic ‘July Martyrs Day’. The event was held to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for justice, democracy, and the rights of the people.

Ceremony Details

To mark the significance of the day, the district administration organized a wreath-laying ceremony, special prayers, and munajat. The program was attended by the Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ahmed Azam Khan, secretary Md. Ashraful Islam, divisional commissioner of Dhaka division Md. Moniruzzaman, Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, senior government officials, and distinguished citizens. Special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs and for the establishment of a just state in the country.

Significance of the Day

Speakers at the program highlighted the importance of July 16, 2024, in Bangladesh's history. Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, is remembered for his courageous stand against injustice, which inspired the mass uprising. His sacrifice is seen as the beginning of a new chapter in the struggle for justice and democracy.

Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam emphasized the profound significance of July Martyrs Day, stating that it is a day to not only remember the martyrs but also to draw inspiration from their ideals and sacrifices. She called for everyone to play a responsible role in realizing the vision of a discrimination-free, just, and humane Bangladesh.

The program concluded with a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs, followed by special prayers and munajat seeking eternal peace for the souls of all the martyrs of the July-August movement. Prayers were also offered for lasting peace, continued development, the growth of democracy, and the establishment of a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
