State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today announced that volunteer organization BD Clean will work with the two Dhaka city corporations to strengthen cleanliness and greening initiatives. Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with BD Clean on cleanliness and greening in Dhaka city, Alam highlighted the urgent need to address indiscriminate littering, which has been clogging drains, canals, and water bodies, leading to waterlogging. He emphasized that active public participation alongside government efforts is essential to build a clean city.
The meeting took place at the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Alam mentioned that initiatives would be taken to coordinate BD Clean's voluntary activities with the Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation to make the organization's programs more institutionalized and sustainable. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between the two city corporations and BD Clean to formalize this collaboration.
The city corporations will provide the necessary logistical support and supply saplings for tree plantation programs. Alam noted that changing long-standing habits takes time but positive change is possible through continuous awareness programs. He urged collective efforts to realize the goal of building a clean, green, and livable Bangladesh.
Mir Shahe Alam also called for intensifying cleanliness drives to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. A 12-member delegation of BD Clean attended the meeting, with Chief Coordinator Champa Akter outlining the organization's activities and seeking government support to further expand its programs. Scholars, experts, and concerned officials were present at the meeting.
This collaboration aims to enhance public participation in cleanliness and greening efforts, providing a structured approach to tackling environmental challenges in Dhaka city. The involvement of BD Clean, a dedicated volunteer organization, is expected to bring fresh momentum to these initiatives.
