Bangladesh and China today signed four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the media sector and promote the use of modern technologies. The signing ceremony took place at Beijing’s historic Great Hall of the People, witnessed by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

According to a statement from Bangladesh’s information and broadcasting ministry, the MoUs were signed by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and the heads of China’s state news agency Xinhua and China Media Group (CMG).

The MoUs aim to expand opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and China in news and information exchange. They will also ensure long-term partnerships and joint research on media issues concerning the Global South, mutual use of modern technologies, technical cooperation, and exchange of experience in the broadcasting sector.

## Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The release from the information and broadcasting ministry stated that the MoUs are expected to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two countries and open new horizons for mutual cooperation in the media and information sectors.

## Prime Minister's Visit

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in China on June 22 as part of the second leg of his first overseas tour after visiting Malaysia. Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon left Dhaka for Beijing on the next day to join the entourage and sign the deals.
