Airbus is sending a team of experts to New Delhi to assist in the investigation of an Air India flight that experienced a dramatic plunge, injuring 17 people. The Airbus A320, en route from Phuket to New Delhi, lost around 300 feet before stabilizing and landing safely on August 4. Air India and the aircraft manufacturer are fully cooperating with the investigation.

## Investigation Details

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the probe into the incident, which has been classified as a Serious Incident. Confirmatory psychoactive drug test results are awaited for the chief pilot, who, along with the co-pilot, has been taken off the flying roster. Eight passengers and four cabin crew members were hospitalized after the incident.

## Background and Context

This incident adds to the challenges faced by Air India, which has struggled with multiple setbacks. Notably, in June 2025, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, resulting in significant loss of life. The airline recently appointed former Ethiopian Airlines chief Tewolde Gebremariam as its new CEO in an effort to steer the company through its difficulties.
