In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested two alleged drug traffickers and seized 55,000 pieces of yaba tablets in two separate operations in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. The operations, conducted on August 5 and 6, 2026, resulted in the arrest of one trafficker with 20,000 yaba tablets worth approximately Taka 1 crore, and another with 35,000 tablets valued at around Taka 1.75 crore. Both individuals were apprehended along with vehicles used for trafficking.

The first operation took place in the Naittongpara adjacent area of Teknaf, based on secret information. Coast Guard personnel searched a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, leading to the arrest of the first trafficker. The second operation, conducted in the Keruntali area under Teknaf Police Station, involved the search of a battery-run van. Both seized items and arrested individuals have been handed over to the Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Coast Guard Media Officer, announced that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of drugs in the region. The Coast Guard remains committed to continuing such operations to combat drug trafficking effectively. The significant haul of yaba tablets highlights the persistent issue of drug trafficking along the Teknaf coastline.

Yaba, a potent form of methamphetamine, is a growing concern in Bangladesh, with trafficking routes often exploiting coastal areas. The recent arrests and seizures underscore the government's determination to address this critical issue, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
