# Alcaraz Set to Return at US Open Following Wrist Injury Recovery

Carlos Alcaraz is set to defend his US Open title with renewed vigor, despite a four-month layoff due to a wrist injury. The 23-year-old Spaniard, who hasn't played singles since April, shared his feelings of anxiety but also confidence in his recovery during a pre-tournament media day.

## Anxious Yet Confident

Alcaraz admitted to feeling anxious after such a long break from competitive play but insisted he feels "at 100 percent" and ready to compete. "I need to come here to practice with these guys to feel the competition once again, and this is really testing," he said.

Despite the layoff, Alcaraz drew confidence from his grueling practice sessions. "I'm feeling great and... that helped me a lot to know right now that it's all in my head," he added. His coaching and support team also expressed complete confidence in his readiness.

## Road to the Title

Alcaraz will open his defense against Russian veteran Roman Safiullin. If he advances, potential opponents include Tommy Paul, Alexander Bublik, Ben Shelton, or Arthur Fils. Although the injury has made him a question mark, other top players like Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz believe he could still contend once he finds his form.

Alcaraz's return is significant, especially after splitting the four Grand Slams with Jannik Sinner in 2025. With Sinner's withdrawal due to a knee injury, Alcaraz and Sinner won't face each other in major events for at least six months. "I just wish him all the best. Hopefully a really great recovery and see him back on court at his best once again," Alcaraz said of his rival.

During his time away, Alcaraz made the most of his break, enjoying time with family and friends and attending the World Cup final in New York where Spain defeated Argentina. "It was a really cool experience and really cool moment," he said.
