# 229 Leaders from UP Bangladesh's Dhaka Branches Join National Citizen Party

229 leaders and activists from the United People's Bangladesh (UP Bangladesh) in Dhaka's two city corporations have joined the National Citizen Party (NCP). Of these, 168 were active in the Dhaka South City Corporation branch, and 61 were in the Dhaka North City Corporation.

Previously, on April 19, the main leadership of UP Bangladesh joined the NCP. UP Bangladesh was formed by former leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Today, at an event in the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium at the National Press Club, 229 leaders and activists from UP Bangladesh joined the NCP. They were welcomed with flower garlands by three top NCP leaders.

The event, titled 'Joining of eminent citizens from various professions including teachers, businessmen, doctors, engineers, lawyers, and artists from Dhaka North and South City Corporations into NCP,' saw the presence of senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib, chief organizer of the northern region Sarjis Alam, and spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan as special guests. NCP convener Nahid Islam, who was supposed to be the chief guest, and Dhaka South City Corporation convener Mohammad Ishaq Sarkar, who was a special guest, could not attend due to illness.

The event was chaired by NCP joint convener Ali Ahsan Junayed, and conducted by NCP joint secretary Shahrin Sultana Ira. Both Junayed and Shahrin joined the NCP from UP Bangladesh on April 19. Junayed was once the president of Islami Chhatra Shibir's Dhaka University branch.

Shahrin Sultana stated that all those who joined the NCP today were leaders and activists of UP Bangladesh's Dhaka North and South branches. NCP leader Ariful Islam Adib, Ali Ahsan Junayed, and others delivered speeches at the beginning of the event, followed by the joining ceremony.

Shahrin Sultana announced the names of 61 leaders and activists from Dhaka North and 168 from Dhaka South. Each person was welcomed on stage with flower garlands by NCP leaders Ariful Islam Adib, Sarjis Alam, and Asif Mahmud.

The joining ceremony concluded with speeches by Sarjis Alam and Asif Mahmud. Following this, a protest march was held from the National Press Club gate to the Kakrail area to condemn an attack on NCP's chief coordinator in Jhenaidah, Nasiruddin Patwari.
