# 13th Jatiya Sangsad's Third Session Prorogued After Nine Sittings

The third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad has been prorogued after nine sittings. The session, which began on August 27, 2026, saw the introduction and passage of six bills, and the formation of 35 parliamentary committees. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, presided over the final sitting and delivered a valedictory speech, thanking all members for their cooperation and active participation.

In his speech, Speaker Ahmad emphasized the importance of mutual respect and cordiality among lawmakers. He highlighted that differences of opinion are a normal feature of a democratic parliamentary system and urged members to maintain a respectful atmosphere while expressing differing views. The Speaker also thanked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman, and all members of Parliament for their contributions.

During the session, a total of 144 questions were submitted for answers from the Prime Minister, of which 15 were answered. Additionally, 2,676 questions were directed to various ministers, with 1,678 of these questions being answered. The Speaker acknowledged the cooperation of the Deputy Speaker, Barrister Kayser Kamal, and the Panel of Chairmen in ensuring the smooth conduct of the session.

The prorogation order was read out by the Speaker on behalf of President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in accordance with Article 72(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh. The order declared the ongoing third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad prorogued after today's sitting. The session saw significant legislative activity and the reconstitution of various parliamentary committees, contributing to the ongoing development of parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh.
