Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today said politics is not just a process of enjoying power, but a process of changing the people's fate. The minister made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the month-long tree plantation programme at Barishal University. The event marked the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

## Minister's Remarks on Politics

Swapon stressed the importance of political parties proving their commitment to the welfare of the people through their actions. 'We must prove that politics is not merely a process of enjoying power. The political party that comes to power or wants to come to power must prove it through their activities,' he said. He highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has demonstrated this commitment.

## Call for Continued Efforts

The minister called for the continuation of activities by social organizations, including the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, to support the welfare of the people. He planted saplings on the university campus following a discussion organized by the foundation.

## Prime Minister's Visit

Swapon also addressed the Prime Minister's visit to Barishal, stating that it is primarily focused on tree planting. He mentioned that the Prime Minister will discuss the development of the southern region with important party leaders and public representatives.

The event was chaired by Barishal University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Mamun Or Rashid and attended by Ziaur Rahman Foundation Executive Director Professor Dr Farhad Halim Doner, Barishal City Corporation Administrator Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin, teachers, students, and local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists.
