President Mohammed Sahabuddin of Bangladesh has resigned, citing severe health complications. The resignation was submitted to Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and accepted at 5:01 pm. In his letter, President Sahabuddin detailed his struggles with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney complications, and a recently detected condition called Autonomic Neuropathy, which causes brief unconsciousness.

The President explained that these health issues have rendered him physically and mentally incapable of fulfilling his duties. He stated, "In accordance with the provisions of Article 50(3) of the Constitution, I am resigning from the President's position."

Under Article 54 of the Constitution, the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, will temporarily assume the duties of the President until a new President is elected and takes office.

Mohammed Sahabuddin had assumed the office of the 22nd President of Bangladesh on April 24, 2023. His resignation marks a significant transition for the nation as it prepares for the election of a new President.
