# PM Tarique Rahman Urges National Unity to Combat Fascism in Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today called for national unity to ensure that fascism or autocracy never return to Bangladesh again and the country never be turned into a subservient state. "We, the ruling and opposition parties in the House, want to firmly believe that there is a national unity among us. I hope this unity will remain intact at any cost, InSha'Allah," he said.

## Political Unity and Justice

The Leader of the House emphasized the importance of maintaining political unity despite differences of opinion. "As per the tradition of the Parliament, and as is practiced throughout the world, there will certainly be differences of opinion among us. But there must never be hostility. Instead of vengeance and retaliation, there should be justice and fairness," he added. The Prime Minister acknowledged the Leader of the Opposition's emphasis on this point and placed equal importance on it.

## Combating Corruption and Ensuring Safety

Addressing the issue of corruption, the Prime Minister highlighted the detrimental effects of the previous authoritarian regime, where USD 16 billion was siphoned out of the country annually. "One of the major causes behind the problems, mentioned by the Leader of the Opposition regarding roads or any other issues, is that corruption," he said. The present government is committed to controlling corruption through stringent measures. The Prime Minister also discussed the government's priorities for combating corruption and maintaining law and order, emphasizing the development of professional law enforcement agencies. He announced a plan to recruit 10,000 new police constables to ensure a safe environment for all citizens.

The Prime Minister's call for national unity and his government's commitment to combating corruption and enhancing law enforcement reflect a broader effort to stabilize and secure Bangladesh's democratic future.
