The meeting was authorized under Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, and was called after consultation with the Speaker. A notification was signed by Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, on August 11. This election follows the notification issued by the Election Commission Secretariat on August 6, which set the stage for the parliamentary polling.
