# Law Minister Calls for Collaboration to Enhance Accountability and Uphold Rule of Law

At a training workshop for newly admitted lawyers in Chattogram, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Md Asaduzzaman stressed the importance of collaboration among the judiciary, legal professionals, and state institutions to uphold the rule of law and create a system of accountability. He encouraged the new generation of lawyers to take a firm stance against corruption and utilize their talents and integrity to promote justice.

The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to moving away from a culture of theft and money laundering, aiming to establish a transparent, accountable, and democratic state. He emphasized the necessity of enforcing the rule of law at all societal levels and fostering a united front against corruption.

During his speech, Advocate Asaduzzaman pointed out the alarming extent of corruption under the previous authoritarian government, citing a report from Time Magazine that indicated 234 billion dollars had been smuggled out of Bangladesh over 16 years. He provided examples of corruption, such as the embezzlement of funds designated for road construction and other projects.

The Law Minister advised the new lawyers that there are no shortcuts to becoming a lawyer and emphasized the importance of continuous learning, serving the public, upholding justice, and maintaining professional integrity. He also responded to inquiries about former President Md Sahabuddin, stating that the government is examining allegations against him and will take appropriate legal action after a thorough investigation.

The event, organized by the Chattogram District Bar Association, saw participation from 1,054 newly enrolled lawyers. It focused on the social standing, professional ethics, and the crucial role of lawyers in upholding justice. The workshop was chaired by Tarique Ahmed, President of the Chattogram District Bar Association, and attended by various dignitaries including Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain and other judicial officials.
