The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 is poised to deliver its judgment in the crimes against humanity case involving seven individuals, including Awami League General Secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader, for their alleged roles in the killings during the July Mass Uprising. The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, has kept the case on CAV (curia advisari vult), a Latin term meaning 'the court awaits judgment', following the conclusion of arguments today.

The prosecution, in its arguments, sought the maximum punishment for the accused, including confiscation of their properties. The other accused in the case are Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, and Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.

The ICT-2 issued an arrest warrant against the seven accused on December 18, 2025, after taking cognizance of the formal charges filed against them. The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused, who hold prominent positions within the ruling Awami League and its affiliated organizations.

The International Crimes Tribunal was established to try individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Over the years, the tribunal has been instrumental in delivering justice for the atrocities committed during that period, though its decisions have often been controversial and politically charged.

The upcoming judgment in this case is expected to have significant implications, not only for the accused individuals but also for the political landscape of Bangladesh. The verdict will be closely watched by various stakeholders, including political parties, human rights organizations, and the general public, as it may set important precedents for future cases involving crimes against humanity.
