NCP MP Hasnat Abdullah has raised concerns in Parliament about the legal measures against journalists who, under the guise of journalism, have legitimized crimes such as genocide, vote rigging, disappearances, murders, and bank robberies. In a supplementary question on Sunday, he inquired about the legal actions taken against such journalists and media outlets.

Information and Broadcasting Deputy Minister Yasir Khan Chowdhury responded that no one is above the law. He assured that legal actions will be taken against anyone, including journalists, politicians, businessmen, or civil servants, who act against the law.

Hasnat Abdullah emphasized the need for professional security for journalists, noting the challenges faced by journalists over the past 17 years. He accused certain media outlets and journalists of producing consent for crimes and questioned their rehabilitation in the media industry.

The Deputy Minister reiterated that media freedom exists but those who work against democracy will face legal consequences. He also addressed concerns about misinformation and the issuance of journalist cards, stating that measures are being taken to monitor and address these issues.
