# Chief Whip: Government Can Resolve Power and Energy Crisis with Public Support

Addressing a discussion at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam emphasized that the government can resolve the country's power and energy crisis with everyone's cooperation. The discussion, organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal, marked the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising. Nurul Islam highlighted that 98 percent of Bangladesh's gas control was handed over to a particular country during the previous government, leading to the current gas crisis due to 'suicidal decisions and mismanagement of the energy sector by the autocratic government.'

The Chief Whip recalled the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, noting that despite the country suffering from famine, Ziaur Rahman transformed Bangladesh into a food-exporting nation within three years. He expressed confidence that the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will similarly place the country on a strong economic foundation. However, he stressed the need for everyone's cooperation to achieve this goal.

Nurul Islam also criticized the previous regime, alleging that nearly Tk 30 lakh crore had been siphoned out of the country. He argued that this money could have financed several national budgets and called for national unity to overcome the systematic weakening of the economy and state institutions. He condemned the autocratic regime for stripping people of their freedom of speech and destroying their hopes and dreams.

Highlighting the incumbent government's efforts, the Chief Whip noted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government has reduced people's suffering and distress over the past five and a half months. He assured that the government is committed to standing by ordinary people and addressing various crises. Regarding the martyrs and injured of the July Mass Uprising, he promised all-out support for the families of those killed and necessary medical treatment and employment opportunities for the injured.

The discussion was attended by political figures, cultural personalities, journalists, and people from various professions. Actor Babul Ahmed and leaders of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal, among others, spoke at the event, which was chaired by Sangskritik Dal President Humayun Kabir Bepari.
