The government will take administrative action against individuals who fraudulently claimed freedom fighter status and secured government jobs and benefits, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan announced today.

## Minister's Announcement

The minister made the comments while responding to an emergency public notice raised by NCP lawmaker Akhter Hossain from Rangpur-4 under section-71 of the rules of procedure at the Jatiya Sangsad. The deputy speaker, Barrister Kayser Kamal, chaired the session.

## Scope of Action

Minister Khan said the action would target not only those who obtained jobs through the freedom fighter quota using forged credentials but also all non-freedom fighters and beneficiaries who unlawfully enjoyed state facilities by falsely claiming freedom fighter status.

## Lawmaker's Concerns

Raising the notice, Akhter Hossain claimed that many people had turned the freedom fighter identity into a means of obtaining government jobs, political positions, allowances, and other state benefits through fraudulent certificates, depriving deserving candidates.

## Unverified Figures

Akhter referred to media reports alleging that around 79,000 individuals had been accused of not being genuine freedom fighters yet receiving allowances and other state benefits. However, Minister Khan clarified that the reported figure was not based on verified information and the actual number of fraudulent beneficiaries could be even higher.

## Government Commitment

The minister reiterated the government's commitment to protecting the true spirit of the Liberation War and ensuring that fraudulent claimants are identified and action is taken against them. He assured that efforts are ongoing and results would be seen soon.
