Authorities in Dhaka arrested a total of 72 people, including 53 activists from the banned Awami League (AL), in two separate operations. The arrests were conducted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police in Bhatara and Uttara West areas, according to a DMP press release.

## Bhatara Operation

In Bhatara, police detained 53 AL activists and their affiliates from a flat in Bashundhara Residential Area. The arrests occurred around 9:05pm in a second-floor flat at Block-M, Road-28 under Bhatara Police Station. According to police, the activists had gathered for a preparatory meeting to observe August 15 and organize a flash procession. The individuals were reportedly carrying placards, banners, and chanting various slogans.

## Uttara West Operation

Meanwhile, Uttara West Police arrested 19 people in various crime-prone areas during a special drive. The DMP confirmed that legal proceedings were underway against those arrested in Uttara West. Legal action is also being initiated against those apprehended in Bhatara.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police stated that its specialized units and police stations are conducting regular surveillance and operations across the capital to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

This recent crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address political activities deemed illegal by the current administration.
